Open call for the 16th Tile of Spain Awards in Architecture and Interior Design

The total prize fund is 39,000 euros distributed among three categories: Architecture, Interior Design and Final Degree Project
ASCER has announced a new edition of the Tile of Spain Architecture, Interior Design and Final Degree Project Awards. The magnificent panel of judges for this sixteenth edition of the awards is made up of internationally-acclaimed professionals working in the architecture and design sectors. The ultimate aim of the Tile of Spain Awards is to promote the use of Spanish ceramic tiles in architecture and interior design (both in Spain and abroad).  The awards are sponsored by Endesa, Vodafone, Port Authority of Valencia and CESCE. Spanish architect Iñaki Ábalos (chairman for this edition) is founder of the international study of architecture Abalos + Sentkiewicz and has got an extensive and professional career, as well as an extensive experience in the teaching field, being currently Professor at ETSAM and resident professor and Chair of Department of Architecture at the GSD of Harvard, where ASCER has a collaboration through the Network of Ceramic Chairs.

The panel of judges also includes Ángela García de Paredes (Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos); Víctor Navarro (Langarita-Navarro); Bak Gordon, Portuguese architect; Moisés Puente (2G’s editor); designer Martín Azúa and Ramón Monfort, from Castellón Architects Professional Association.

Registrations are open and the project submission deadline is 24th October 2017. The Awards have a prize fund of 39.000 euros distributed among three categories. The two main categories are Architecture and Interior Design, each with a cash prize of 17.000 euros. The main entry requirement is that the projects feature ceramic tiles made in Spain. The third category is the Final Degree Project, targeting students of Architecture and with a cash prize of 5.000 euros. The panel of judges are also entitled to give two special mentions in each category.  

The Awards have a solid trajectory and are well recognized among professionals. After 15 years, in this edition the Awards have a new identity, adopting a more contemporary image, in line with the current design trends. The  website has also been renewed according to the new image and it has been launched a promotional video about the Awards on social media. 

At the previous edition, the award in the architecture category went to a renovation project for two homes in Oropesa (Toledo) by the Paredes Pedrosa studio. The ‘TABA espazioa’ gastro space by  Ibon Salaberria on the ground floor of the Tabakalera Culture Centre in San Sebastian, received the Interior Design award. And in the Final Degree Project the award went to the project entitled ‘In Situ’ by  M Wesam Al Asali from the University of Cambridge.
